The present Patek Philippe Chronograph reference 1579 in 18k yellow gold, dating to circa 1952, is one of the manufacture's most elegant and sought-after vintage chronographs. Introduced in 1943, the reference 1579 is instantly recognizable by its distinctive 36 mm three-piece case with sculptural "spider" lugs, manufactured by Wenger, whose flowing architecture has become one of the defining designs of Patek Philippe's golden era. This example belongs to the desirable second series, distinguished by its beautiful silvered dial with black printing, base-1000 tachymeter scale, applied Arabic numerals at 6 and 12, and elegant pyramid-shaped gold hour markers. The balanced two-register layout is complemented by gilt feuille hands and a blued central chronograph seconds hand, creating one of the most harmonious dial designs ever produced by the manufacture. Like many important vintage Patek Philippe watches, the dial has benefited from a period cleaning carried out by Patek Philippe rather than being replaced, allowing it to retain its originality while remaining beautifully preserved. The 18k yellow gold case has been lightly polished in the past but retains excellent proportions, with its hallmarks still clearly visible, an important characteristic for collectors. The watch is fitted with a leather strap and an 18k yellow gold Patek Philippe pin buckle. Powering the watch is the legendary manually wound calibre 13''' chronograph movement, one of the finest traditional chronograph movements of its era. The watch is accompanied by a Patek Philippe Geneva service invoice dated 2014 totaling approximately CHF 5,000, during which the manufacture carried out a complete service. The movement has also been checked by our watchmaker and is running perfectly. Elegant, historically significant, and increasingly difficult to source in well-preserved condition, the reference 1579 remains one of the most iconic vintage chronographs ever produced by Patek Philippe.
