An extraordinary and museum-grade example of the Audemars Piguet Perpetual Calendar reference 5548BA, one of the very first automatic perpetual calendar wristwatches ever produced by Audemars Piguet. This piece belongs to the desirable B-series, placing its production in the late 1970s, and is accompanied by an exceptionally complete and historically rich set. Included are the original box, period Japanese catalogue folder, leather document holder, original certificate, and the original warranty (undated). The watch also comes with Audemars Piguet Japan service papers from 2025, confirming a movement service only (no polishing), preserving the original sharp case geometry. The 18k yellow-gold case is in superb condition, with deep and crisp hallmarks. The white enamel dial is exceptional, showing only a few microscopic hairlines invisible to the naked eye — a normal and completely acceptable characteristic of enamel dials from this era. It is fitted with its original yellow-gold AP buckle and a new (non-AP) leather strap. With only 2066 pieces produced in yellow gold across the 5548/25548 family, this model is one of the most important and collectible early AP perpetual calendars, representing the birth of the ultra-thin automatic QP lineage that later defined the brand. A truly outstanding example — unparalleled condition, a phenomenal set, and a historically significant perpetual calendar from the golden age of Audemars Piguet.
