A truly exceptional Rolex Explorer I Ref. 1016, dating from approximately 1982, with serial number 7183XXX. The watch comes directly from the family of its original owner and has been remarkably preserved in completely original, unpolished condition. The case is exceptionally well preserved, retaining its original thickness, sharp proportions and crisp factory finishing. The original MK5 dial is beautifully aged, with an attractive natural patina, while the original hands remain perfectly matching. The watch retains its original crystal and even the caseback remains completely free of any service engravings, consistent with a watch that had never previously been serviced. The original 78360 Oyster bracelet, fitted with 580 end links, is in remarkable condition with virtually no stretch. The clasp is stamped G. The movement is currently being serviced by our watchmaker. Importantly, the watch remains 100% original, with no replacement parts and no evidence of previous intervention. Exceptional examples of the Ref. 1016 with this degree of originality, an unpolished case, untouched MK5 dial, original hands, crystal and bracelet are becoming increasingly difficult to find. A particularly compelling collector's example of the iconic Explorer I.
