A very rare and early Blancpain Fifty Fathoms, dating to circa 1957, representing one of the foundational models in the history of dive watches. Originally developed in collaboration with the French Navy’s combat diver unit, the Fifty Fathoms set the standard for modern tool watches. This example features a desirable 41 mm stainless steel case, in strong overall condition, preserving the robust proportions of this early diver. The watch is fitted with its original glossy black dial, with white printing and bold Arabic radium hour markers, all preserved in beautiful and highly collectible condition. Finding such well-preserved original dials is increasingly difficult. The original hands retain their radium lume, well matched with the hour markers, though showing minor cracking consistent with age. The watch is also fitted with its original bakelite bezel, which remains in excellent condition. Powering the watch is the automatic Blancpain calibre 1361N, which has been checked by our watchmaker and is running well. The watch will be delivered with a Blancpain Heritage report, confirming its authenticity and correct configuration. An important and highly collectible early Fifty Fathoms, combining military history, originality, and strong overall condition—an essential piece for any serious vintage diver collection.
